Poor Air Quality is second only to smoking as a public health problem; nearly 9500 people die early each year due to air pollution in London alone. The health impacts cost the city an estimated £3.7 billion. LoCity is one of many programmes that Transport for London, the Greater London Authority and other organisations are delivering to reduce emissions and improve air quality.
Mercury Fuel Systems Ltd is pleased to be part of the process, and we are active members of two of the working parties for Trucks and Vans.
Last week’s Annual Conference was an opportunity to keep up to date with LoCity’s progress since its launch in January 2016, as well as hearing about other initiatives and examples of best practice from around the country. Mercury was also part of an exhibition in the old library at the Guildhall in London where we were showcasing our innovative Quicksilver Dual Fuel System and Exhaust Aftertreatment System. The Dual Fuel system has recently been tested by both Millbrook and Mira. Preliminary results confirm significant reductions in greenhouse gasses and other pollutants. Added to the proven fuel cost savings which can be achieved, Mercury are working hard to provide cost effective options for companies who will be operating trucks, vans and buses within the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) in London.
